世界文化遺産登録をめざして Nominated for inscription on the World Heritage List

At the end of the 12th century, the samurai assembled under Minamoto no Yoritomo and built a capital in Kamakura, establishing the samurai government, which marked the start of a new era. The samurai culture was also born in Kamakura which greatly influenced the present Japanese culture. The historic heritages in Kamakura bear testimony to the new era and its culture that were created by the samurai.

Kanagawa Prefecture, Yokohama City, Kamakura City and Zushi City are working together for the inscription of "Kamakura, Home of the Samurai" on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

This website outlines our activities towards the World Heritage inscription and introduces the historic heritages of "Kamakura, Home of the Samurai".

Thank you for your support and understanding towards the successful inscription of "Kamakura, Home of the Samurai" on the World Heritage List.
